OLED displays operate without backlighting. They can display low black levels and are thinner and lighter than liquid crystal displays (LCD). In poor ambient light conditions, such as in a dark room, an OLED screen can achieve a higher contrast ratio than an LCD. The OLED 9664 display module is a compact 256 or 65,536 color RGB graphics display module from DFRobot that includes a 0.96" OLED with 96x64 RGB pixels and has a wider viewing angle and improved brightness compared to the character LCD due to the advantages of OLED technology.

The OLED module's driver chip is SSD1331. Therefore, it is designed to be driven via a 3-wire SPI interface, which is a simpler and more cost effective way of I/O allocation. With the Arduino OLED library you get a simple solution to draw everything you want. The easy-to-use library functions can generate both text in a variety of sizes and colorful shapes (including custom bitmap characters such as logos). This module directly supports Arduino controllers and works with the .NET Gadgeteer series controllers and the Dreamer Mega controller. By using the IDC10 connectors it is possible to be controlled by a .NET Gadgeteer compatible motherboard as well as the Dreamer Mega.NET Gadgeteer in the style of an easy to use Arduino microcontroller based on Arduino.
