This wheel detects both contact and distance. The PhidgetCircularTouch detects capacitance changes between the integrated electrodes and the contact object. The 1016 can be mounted behind a glass or plastic plate; the recommended thickness is 1/8 inch. Use silicone adhesive when attaching the Phidget to the material, placing the PhidgetCircularTouch or creating space between the release material and the Phidget may cause false triggering. Materials thicker than 1/8" may work, but require a larger contact area to ensure proper triggering (i.e. two fingers instead of one). The PhidgetCircularTouch connects directly to your computer via USB and acts like an interface kit in the software. via a USB port.
