Üoverview
This board is a compact (0.5″ × 0.9″) breakout board for the ST L3GD20 triaxial digital output gyroscope. The L3GD20 is a great IC, but its small, lead-free LGA case makes it difficult for the typical student or hobbyist to use. This also works with voltages below 3.6 V, which can make it difficult to connect 5 V microcontrollers. This carrier board solves these problems by integrating additional electronics, including a 3.3 V voltage regulator and level shifter circuits, in the most compact package possible. The board comes complete with its SMD components, including the L3GD20 as shown in the product image. Compared to the older L3G4200D, the L3GD20 uses a higher resonant frequency, which makes it more resistant to audio noise and vibration. This card remains pin compatible with the original L3G4200D carrier, although changes to I²C addresses and configuration registers mean that code written to the interface with an L3G4200D may need to be changed to work with an L3GD20.
