Üoverview
The Sharp distance sensors are a popular choice for many projects that require accurate distance measurements. This IR sensor is more economical than sonar rangefinders, but offers much better performance than other IR alternatives. Connection to most microcontrollers is simple: the single analog output can be connected to an analog-to-digital converter for performing distance measurements, or the output can be connected to a comparator for threshold detection. The detection range of this version is approximately 4 cm to 30 cm (1.5″ to 12″).
The GP2Y0A41 uses a 3-pin JST PH connector, which works with our 3-pin JST PH cables for sharp distance sensors (not included), as shown in the picture above right. These cables have 3-pin JST connectors at one end and are available with pre-crimped pins, pre-crimped female pins and unwired wires at the other end. It is also possible to connect three wires to the sensor where the pins are mounted (see picture below right). Viewed from the Rück side, the three connections from left to right are the power supply, ground and output signal.
